I believed that this essay was very good and it showed many themes. The play talks about an African American Family's struggles to make ends meet and attempt to buy a new house. They receive money because a family member died, and the film shows how the family is deciding to spend their money.

One of the themes that this play portrays is the family's need to fight racial discrimination. The family is offered a lot of money in order to not move into an all white community. The family is very offended by this and ultimately turn down the offer because they feel that they should be able to live wherever they want to live. This is an example of how this family fights the racial discrimination in the play.

Straight Outta Compton Evaluation

“Straight Outta Compton” was a film that had many themes and lessons. This film follows a rap group by the name of NWA. The film starts with the group coming together to try and make a new album to release. While the group is struggling to make their album a hit the film also shows the group being oppressed by many cops and authority figures. The group eventually finds a manager to help them deal with all of the oppression and violence and they produce a popular album.

This film shows many themes and symbols. The first theme that was evident was the theme of hate. This group is hated by many people including cops, the CIA, and many white people in general. This film portrays this group standing up for themselves and not backing down. I think that many teens growing up can relate to the rebellion of this group. There were also symbols that were shown in this film. The entire group of NWA is a symbol for the black population. Many of the African Americans at the time felt that they were being oppressed by cops. The group helped the African American community stand up for themselves.

Selma: A great Civil Rights film

The film “Selma” is about the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. This film portrays some of the hardships that African Americans had to go through in the 1960’s. This film also showed the perseverance and resilience of African Americans that were apart of the civil rights movement.

I really enjoyed this film. I can really feel the emotion of Dr. Martin Luther King while watching this film. I also found that I was more emotionally attached because this film was based on true events. There were obviously some parts that triggered my emotion more than others. The most emotion driven scene was the scene in which Dr. King says that he will die if it means that African Americans will have equal rights when he is gone. I considered this a very noble thing to do and I aspire to be a man like him.

"Throwing Like a Girl" by James Fallows was a very interesting piece. My views of the saying "throwing like a girl" changed after I read this article. I did not realize how offensive this term was to women around the world.

Before reading this article I thought throwing like a girl was not that offensive and was just an old saying. I now realize that this term is making fun of women everywhere. Well it is scientifically proven that men are generally stronger and more athletic than women this is DEFINITELY not always the case. There are many women that are far more athletic than most males.

Fallows described what people mean when they say that someone was throwing like a girl. All young boys dreaded hearing those words because it meant that you could not throw very well. There are obviously many women today that can throw a baseball (or football for that matter) very well. This term is very sexist and should not be used.

I would say that each song means something different to me. First, “Forever” by Drake is a very deep song to me. It shows me that even if everybody doubts me and thinks that I cannot accomplish my goal I will continue to strive for that goal. “Heart of a Champion” by Nelly has a similar effect on me. Nelly explains that there is no way that anybody is gong to stop him from accomplishing his goal. I believe that this is relevant to my life on the football field as well as in the classroom. I will not let anybody stop me from accomplishing my goal and I will try me very best to accomplish them.

The next song has a different meaning to it. “Ride” by Twenty-One Pilots allows me to look at my life as a whole. This song makes me realize that in the chaos that is life I must take a step back from everything and make sure that I enjoy the ride that is life. Life is a precious thing and I realize that when I hear this song.
